One of the best features of Minecraft has nothing to do with the block-building fun. Or maybe, everything to do with it depending on how you look at it. One of the things Microsoft did once they owned the IP was to release the Better Together update, which unified the codebase of the Xbox One, Windows 10, VR and mobile device apps, letting everyone play on the same servers together.
At that time, the only consoles left out of the party were the Nintendo Switch and the PS4. So, nearly two years later – has that changed?
Jun 02, 2017 I think there should be a Mac version of Minecraft. And before you assume, I want you to know I already know one exists (java Minecraft). What I mean is there should be a Mac edition like the Windows 10 Edition, in the sense that it would be cross-platform (compatible with the Windows 10 Edition itself and mobile).
If you own a Nintendo Switch and want to play with your PC-owning friends – you’re in luck. Back in June of last year, Microsoft finally ported the “Bedrock” version of Minecraft to Nintendo’s latest console, enabling cross-play with most other versions of the game.
I have to say “most” here because Sony decided that it decided to not join the party. Minecraft Video converter software for pc. players on the PS4 are sadly stuck with only playing against other PlayStation owners.
For you Nintendo Switch owners, that means you can download the updated version for free (assuming you already owned the prior version). Otherwise, it’s $30 from your favorite game vendor or the Nintendo Switch eShop. The Better Together version enables cross-play, the Minecraft Marketplace for buying skins, texture packs and community creations, and enables Switch players to earn Gamerscore and achievements. C’mon Sony, you’re using Microsoft’s servers for your games now, it’s about time to bury the pixelated hatchet and allow Minecraft cross-play as well.
